"People will describe other weapons...bicycle spokes, umbrella spokes..."

From a clinical point of view, if I can just make a mention to that, there are things that can be done.

Liveline
"People will describe other weapons...bicycle spokes, umbrella spokes..."

And you had spoken about this a little bit before about the education programs.

Liveline

So something that we learned from London and from Liverpool in particular was the Knife Saver program.

The Knife Saver program was about community intervention, community education programs.

but also training.

Liveline
"People will describe other weapons...bicycle spokes, umbrella spokes..."

So training when it comes to, you know, these societies will get out, they get into a school, they get into a football club, into a stadium, and they would teach people what to do if they did meet a victim of a penetrating crime.

Because ultimately you can bleed to death very quickly from a stab wound.

Liveline

The international data would tell us that people could bleed to death within five minutes.

But often it takes longer than that for paramedics to get there.

So these programs like Knife Savers in London are teaching the public and teaching, you know, maybe security and high volume centers on what to do if they do encounter a victim, how to stem that belief to keep that person alive until the paramedics get there so that we can take it on then when the person reaches hospital.

Liveline
"People will describe other weapons...bicycle spokes, umbrella spokes..."

Yeah, and we certainly see a whole array of weapons.

Liveline
"People will describe other weapons...bicycle spokes, umbrella spokes..."

We don't often get to see the weapon because it might be disposed of at the scene, but sometimes we might get an account on bystanders or paramedics.

Liveline

But people will describe other weapons being used, like a Stanley blade.

Liveline
"People will describe other weapons...bicycle spokes, umbrella spokes..."

We commonly see bicycle spokes, umbrella spokes.

But

But domestic violence are probably the more common thing that we see.

Liveline
"People will describe other weapons...bicycle spokes, umbrella spokes..."

There was a really interesting and a very vivid campaign which was run in the UK again and the video is available on YouTube if anybody wants to check it out.

Liveline

And the whole premise behind this production, it starts off by asking these youths in London where is a safe place to stab somebody and it goes around the entire body asking lots and lots of young people and ultimately the end result for the

for the viewers and for those who partook was that there is nowhere that is safe to stab somebody and ultimately with the depth of your weapon you never know what injury what injuries you can inflict and we've seen time and time again where somebody's life could have been ended if that knife or that bladed weapon had advanced a mere matter of millimetres away from where it was so the margins are tiny But bicycle spokes is that a thing?

Liveline
"People will describe other weapons...bicycle spokes, umbrella spokes..."

Yes, it is, yeah.
