Okay, yeah, good questions.
Good place to start.
Basically, the Middle Ages is a long kind of intermission period
between classical Rome and the Renaissance period.
So we're thinking around kind of 500 to 1500.
And it's a phrase, the Middle Ages or the medieval period or Latin Christendom, it's first sort of initially invented by this bunch of liberal kind of humanists of the 15th century Renaissance period.
And they used it to distinguish themselves to kind of emphasize a continuity with the classical past.
Okay.
And so it's rather stuck as this phrase and it becomes a kind of mirror or a yardstick for us modern historians to kind of measure what's backwards and what's progressive about our own history.
And so it gets a bad press.
And it's a long period of time.
It's a thousand years.
Exactly.
So we might want to see where the cult of saints might fit into that and whether we think of it as something that's relevant to us or needs to be left consigned to the dark ages.
