feeling that it should be a pacifist approach in Ireland.

She really believed that with the executions as well that had followed James Connolly particularly affected her badly, that actually something had to happen and that the Irish people had to rise up.

So it's quite a complex one really because we're looking at her as a pacifist but supporting this armed rebellion.

Yeah, and it is actually, I think it's a consistency.

And maybe it's because I feel like I've been inside her head for over 20 years at this stage, reading everything that she's written, whether they're personal accounts or political speeches or political publications.

But you can see her reasoning behind this, the war, the World War I and why she was so opposed to it.

Because, of course, this is part of the British Empire.

She has issues with the British Empire and the travesties that have unfolded throughout their rule.

But it's also the fact that, and it isn't an English...

Irish thing.

This is down to the fact that it's working class people who have been most affected by the war, that these men are being drafted, they're being conscripted into the army, and she fights for them.

And therefore, you can see it's about the oppressed people.

So by the time we get to the Easter Rising, again, it's still about oppression.

And it's oppression, again, by who?

By the British Empire.

So actually, although she's a pacifist, she is against empire on both ways.

So she comes across as anti-war in Britain, but she's pro-rebellion in Ireland.

Yeah, yeah.

I think that Eva is much more diplomatic in her dealings with the Gore Booths because she knows at times that she needs their help and especially with Jocelyn, with her brother.
