Eating insects is very much a tropical behavior.
Why is that?
So what kinds of insects are more routine in the tropics?
Big, meaty ones.
Juicy.
Juicy.
Flying ones?
Social ones.
Easy to get.
So swarming ones.
You find one termite mound and you have access to a lot of termites.
Kuna matata, my man.
In order for it to be worth the caloric investment in hunting down insects, you need to get- Look, I found an ant.
Thousands.
I ate and singular cockroach.
So as you go further north, insect eating becomes less common.
And what they found was that when they did find chitin in the plaque of Asian and European, like more northern populations of humans, they said their insect eating was sporadic.
And probably accidental.
Oh.
Kind of like when we eat a hot dog.
