And so for me, it's really about, you know, putting our best foot forward and trying to share exposure to radiology, but specifically interventional radiology.
Because I think it's really hard for a medical student to get early exposure to it.
You know, it's kind of depending on curriculum.
You know, your first year and a half, first two years is all going to be about studying and your core classes and, you know, tests after tests after tests.
And then you take step one slash step two, and then you do your core rotations.
And unless like interventional radiology is part of your surgery core rotation, you really don't get exposure to it.
So for us, you know, I went to med school here and if it wasn't for getting an interview angle for back table, actually, I don't think I would have gotten built that relationship with kind of the interventional radiology department and gotten that kind of continuous exposure, you know.
People hear radiology and they, the radiology part of interventional radiology, and they just kind of default to, okay, dark room, like just reading studies.
But I think at least for interventional radiology, the cohort that gravitates towards that the most are the people interested in surgery, are the people interested in a procedural heavy specialty, right?
You know, everybody knows GI, everybody knows palm, everybody knows, you know, cardiac cath and interventional cardiology, and everybody knows surgery.
But IR breaking into, you know, that type of procedural heavy mentality just takes exposure.
You know, it's interesting.
My brother was actually, he trained at Sinai in IR.
And when I was going into med school, he was, you know, like, oh, you got to check out IR.
And he would tell me things and be like, this is why it's cool.
And honestly, it just sounded fake.
We're like, you know, it's so hard, at least for me it was.
It was really hard to grasp what we can do and what our procedures are like.
in how much clinician and proceduralists kind of hand-in-hand we are while also being, you know, a phenomenal radiologist at its core until you get hands-on exposure to it, until you get to scrub a few cases, until you get to see, you know, be on consults and you see just countless people just, you know, not necessarily a consult question, but the consult question is just, you know, can you help?
And I don't think you can sell our specialty unless it's in person, like hands-on.
