Lovely to be here.
Thank you for having me.
So it's such a personal story because it was when I became pregnant and because of where I live it you know, diabetes isn't necessarily on on the radar, but because of my weight and my ethnicity, it was, you know, a good idea for you to have an oral glucose tolerance test just to see if you had diabetes in pregnancy.
So I'm of black Caribbean descent and in the very
diverse, you know, sort of world of living in London.
But not in a particularly deprived area of London.
When I became pregnant, it was like, oh, okay, you you do tick that box.
But I think it was probably more about the weight than the ethnicity, to be fair.
So I had a an an an oral glucose tolerance test.
And then they repeat the blood test two hours afterwards.
And
Nothing.
It was completely fine.
But then it made me go, Okay, I'm very active, obviously I'm a doctor.
I know why we're doing this test.
Thank you for letting me know my numbers.
And off I went.
normal pregnancy, normal delivery, no problems.
And then after I had my daughter, I went to work in Newham and then suddenly was like, Oh my goodness, has everybody got diabetes here?
It's something like one in four residents has diabetes.
