So we've all gone to clown school, art school, theater school.
We don't just pick someone off the street who looks good in a big win and red nose, because that's creepy clown.
We don't touch that.
We bring professionally trained artists.
We go wherever we're invited.
We don't define what the crisis is and we literally perform around the world inside the US as well, working with other nonprofits.
And we simply offer a show that's physical theater, meaning juggling, acrobatics, slapstick, a little bit of music to share laughter.
And I tell you, Renee, I've done this work for over 20 years now.
I have seen children in Yazidi refugee camps in Turkey who escaped the genocide that occurred to the Yazidis under ISIS over a decade ago laugh, play at a show, and mothers come up to me afterwards and say, this is the first time I've seen my daughter laugh since we moved to this camp.
We had a child we worked with in Haiti.
I remember this was before the first earthquake.
So this is probably about 2007.
We were working in a pediatric ward, very limited supplies, no pain meds.
And we walked in on a child.
We were invited in by the nurses, but it was a child who had severe second degree burns across his back and he was being debrised.
And nurses listening, we know that's one of the most painful procedures.
You have to do it, otherwise you'll die.

He was howling.
So we walked in as clowns.
