And I'm going to build a sailboat.

And I'm going to go out in search of the winds.

And I'm going to go move my sail.

I'm going to trim that sail to catch luck to take me to my destination.

Yeah.

You have to have a compass.

You need to know where you're going.

And that's one of the parts of your prepared mind is having some very clear objectives.

Otherwise, I mean, I guess you can go out for a day and go sailing around the bay and come back.

Which is also fun, right?

But if you have a destination, it's much easier to point the sail in the right direction.

You know, there are some foundational things that people don't realize affect their luck.

So the opening chapter is about values and why you need to be really clear on your core values.

To be luckier.

Because, well, all you have to do is read the newspaper every day and see people who weren't clear on their core values who end up in prison.

Right?

People who get on a slippery slope, make decisions that were not smart.

If you take the time to really think about what's important to you, what you won't compromise so that when you're asked to do something, you know, whoa, will you just fudge these numbers or will you just exaggerate, you know, what this product does?

Or for me, it was a situation when I was in just my first job out of school.

I was asked to misrepresent myself at a conference.
