What are the medications that I can use on this person who's acutely ill for me to get them back on track, out of the hospital, back home and healing? So I understand why medical education is structured the way that it is. But the problem is it's a total failure in terms of our goal of having a healthier America.

Because at the end of the day, we have completely missed the opportunity to prevent the person from ending up in the hospital in the first place. And how can we have a healthcare system that doesn't care about your health until you're actually diseased? That's insane. And in medical school, the amount of nutrition that we're taught

So you have to keep in mind, here I am, it's 2025, and I was in medical school from 2002 until 2006. In 2003, I had two weeks of nutrition education. And that was not how do I talk to a patient about what they should eat in order to improve diabetes or to improve their blood pressure, whatever it may be, or to lose weight.

That two weeks of nutrition education was what happens if a person is deficient in vitamin B6? Well, how often do we diagnose that? How relevant is that to having a real practical conversation with your patient? So this is the issue is that doctors are not provided any sort of formal training on how to talk to their patients.

And then simultaneously, the other issue that's happening, Nick, in the healthcare system is that doctors don't have control over their time. Basically, the insurance company dictates the compensation to the doctor, which dictates the amount of time that a doctor has with their patient.

Because in order to make ends meet, when the cost of renting your office space is going up, and the cost of employing people is going up, and the cost of the medical devices and equipment that you buy is going up, doctors are basically forced into more patients in less time. This is what's happened over the last 30 years. And so here we are. And there's no time to actually talk about nutrition.
