morning it's good to see you don we don't have any new breaking details off of everything we reported yesterday beyond the fact that barry weiss uh addressed it in a morning meeting um with staff and and effectively said that she wanted to build a news organization that was built on mutual respect and trust and that that uh you know obviously her feelings the feelings of nick bilton the new executive producer of 60 minutes
were that Scott was more interested in ambushing them effectively.
They said they reached out to him over the course of the weekend, invited him to dinner.
He was more interested in doing what they view largely as performative and insubordinate.
I think if you pull back, Don, just listening to the end of your remarks there,
You have a situation here where you have a new regime in power who has a very different vision for what 60 Minutes should be.
Different people have different feelings about that.
And they have been quite brash and have a great deal of conviction in that vision, despite having very little experience in the field of television journalism.
And on the other hand, you've got the Scott Pellys and the Sharon Alfonsis of the world who feel like 60 Minutes wasn't broken.
It didn't need to be fixed.
And it is an institution that has been the crown jewel of American television journalism for over half a century.
It has been the most popular American news program for over half a century.
It is not, by the way.
immune to the broader forces at play in terms of the decline of you know the linear television business um all of that said there's a lot you could try to fix at cbs news and it's not exactly clear why you would start with the one thing that was actually
working and no matter how you feel about this you can be team pelly and a lot of people are you can be team barry and the truth is it's not your audience dom but a lot of people are but what you can't deny is that part of making this whole thing work part of making television work is having people in place who know what they're doing and know how to preempt drama like this from happening
You dealt with a particularly, I'll say it, you don't have to say it, you dealt with a particularly bad leader at CNN who kicked you out in the most dramatic, ill-advised way possible.
And you got ahead of it and you said, you know what?
No, I'm going.
Great.
None of that should have ever happened.
