Right.
They're both saying that they're committed to truth.
They're committed to facts that that's the end goal.
Scott is doing a version of that that is consistent with the tradition of American television journalism going back for decades.
What Barry seems more preoccupied by is not so much going after the people in power as going after the media itself.
There is an undercurrent of her work dating back to the opinion page at the New York Times that is sort of very obsessed with the imperfections of predominantly left-wing institutions, be it academia, be it media, and this sort of anti-wokeism, I think, that she champions.
And that...
I think forces her to sort of over index on going after the media, saying, like, here's what the media is doing wrong with the media is to left.
The media is too woke.
Is it a reasonable criticism?
Like, that's not for me to decide.
You can take that up on a debate stage at like the 92nd Street.
Why?
Fine.
But if you're going to do that, it just becomes a very weird position for someone who's running a news organization to be in because you're basically going to war with your own employees.
And it's not totally different from what Chris Licht was trying to do.
Both of these people had a mandate.
to come into the news organization and tack it back towards some ostensible center, whatever that is, wherever that lives, whether or not that exists, that was the mandate.
And in so doing, there was this sense that they were actually really
actually going over the center and going to the right in order, I guess, to compensate for what they viewed as liberal media.
