When we started this whole saga, I believe there were seven or eight 60 minutes correspondence.
I think we're now down to about three.
And a lot of those folks are at the end of their careers anyway.
So I think what we're going to see, if you ask what's next, we are going to see a wholesale transformation of the identity of 60 minutes, not just in terms of the talent, in terms of even format, and I think a strategy to expand it beyond that one hour on Sunday nights.
Can that work?
Is 60 Minutes, as we've known it, still 60 Minutes if it has the same name but an entirely different staff, talent, leadership, ownership, et cetera?
That is an open question.
And I have to tell you, Don, you know it because you've charted your own course out here outside of the walls of legacy media.
The world is not clamoring for 60 Minutes as the sole proprietor of great documentary investigative journalism.
A lot of people can do that.
The reason 9 million people still go to 60 Minutes is because it has a reputation for what it does, because they believe in the integrity of what it does.
A lot of other people can do that out here, outside those walls.
And if 60 Minutes isn't doing what it used to do, I'm not sure why people
Yeah, that's right.
If you're if you're reading that from a legal perspective, the words for cause firing for cause.
It's just a question of does Pelly have a right to in that meeting to go up against his bosses and question them the way that he did?
I think a lot of journalists would say yes.
I think a lot of folks in management would say absolutely not.
And if someone attempted to do that in any field other than journalism, they would have been fired for cause on the spot.
It felt like Scott Pelley was tempting fate here.
