to take an evolutionary approach to if our cognitive abilities and our perceptual abilities developed evolutionarily in response to the environment and other species did as well in the ways that they did.
right it is perfectly natural then to say that the narrative center of gravity which is an evolutionary trait that we have serves some kind of purpose did or does i don't know but that we can treat it as a phenomenon in exactly the same way we talk about the ability to distinguish colors you know a forked tongue what have you that it serves some kind of purpose
and that there's nothing mystical or special about it with respect to a demarcation line between us and other species.
It's just simply another evolutionary advantage.
And as Chris pointed out, and we talked about earlier, if it's on a continuum, because there have been other hominids
Homo sapiens won, but there's what, about 15 or 16 different Homo something species, right?
That they just didn't win out because of whatever reason.
And we know that dolphins have the ability to work collaboratively to achieve goals and they have aspects of language, right?
It's clear that this capability...
is latent at least or perhaps some form of this capability is latent in other species so starting to think about it as a phenomenon like that instead of some kind of transcendental mystical thing that gives us a status you know like we have opposable thumbs and we are able to it seems to us like there's a something that it's like to be us
Okay, now let's figure that out.

But let's not raise it to some kind of exalted status that it doesn't belong and then start patting ourselves on the back because of it.
