You're just, your heart's racing.
You don't even feel it happening.
Last 500 meters, same, right?
Tougher, you're tired, but you can see the finish line.
And there's something magical about that, right?
There's something about seeing the end or feeling the end that takes the weight off.
The middle 1,000, though...
Lactic acid rapidly, you know, making its way through your body.
Your lungs are on fire.
Your quads are screaming.
And then I'd see it.

Right on the screen in front of me.
712 meters to go.
And I'd simply remind myself every time I saw it that this would end.
That I could rise above.
That I could conquer this demon.
And I'm not sure why or how that came to be, but I found peace in it.
The sort of calm during the storm.
Because when it hurts, we tell ourselves the wrong things.
