Because yes, there's intelligence and larger models are more intelligent.
No doubt about it.
We should continue to scale up.
But the behaviors of being really persistent, of being able to backtrack when you're wrong, of understanding how to interact with your environment,
Show us that we can get a lot more out of it.
And this for me has created a bit of a question in my mind the last couple of days.
If you think about where we're using models today, right, we are using models say for knowledge work represents 25% of the global economy, you know, $25 trillion of work.
As we scale up models and they become more intelligent, we are excited about using them more and more for pushing the frontier of science.
And if you look at the frontier of science, like true breakthroughs in science, they are linked to more intelligence in many places.
Einstein figuring out general relativity is able to bring ideas together that other people would have not brought together.
And I think one of the many dimensions of intelligence is the ability to do that.
And it's something we clearly see that as models get larger and more capable, they're able to pull more ideas and threads together that a smaller model wouldn't be able to.
And we're starting to see examples of that in medicine and like in bio and other things.
But if you think about the majority of knowledge work that we do, and it includes building software, I'm a software developer at heart, first and foremost, probably, although I probably can't say it that much anymore because I don't write production code in years.
is that what makes us good is actually our persistence.
It's our ability to encounter a problem and backtrack and say, I need to go figure out this bug.
I need to go research this.
I need to go look at the documentation.
I need to like try different five different ways to see like if I can solve it.
but it is not necessarily bringing three ideas together from radically different fields.
