this idea, this crazy idea, um, of using that latent mapping that I mentioned in that earlier paper to see if maybe that's not true.
That wonder if
You could guess what English sounds like just from
the text-based representation.
Where if you've never seen you don't know what duh, what sound duh makes, or d makes, or what sound a T makes, but you've got the map.
You've got the embedding in text space and then you've got the um uh some other phonological embedding.
could you possibly guess?
That's a long shot.
So maybe it's not totally arbitrary and maybe it's gonna be maybe the radical uh you know the radical thesis here is it's not arbitrary at all, that there's so the words have to sound the way they do, that the mechanics actually happens, like something happens mechanically based on the sounds themselves.
But
M my bet is that that's it's gonna be closer to arbitrary.

Uh I but w you you were gonna say, why not why wouldn't the platonic space prove that it's arbitrary?
Well, if in fact you can't do the mapping at all, if you can guess it, if the platonic space says, you know, there's no way to get from text representation.
to phonology.
Phonology is doing its own thing and it's and it's just like the word mouse is just
for no good reason, um, then then it's hopeless.
