Eleanor Holmes Norton has represented the District of Columbia in Congress for 18 terms.
Now she's ready to call it a career.
The Democrats filed paperwork to end her reelection campaign.
The 88-year-old, who's been the district's only representative in Congress since 1991, has been an institution in Washington politics for decades.
And while she didn't have a vote, Norton had the ear of many in her party.
She's one of the oldest members of the House and a veteran of the civil rights movement, helping to organize the 1963 March on Washington.
Mayor Muriel Bowser congratulated Norton on her retirement, calling her D.C.
's warrior on the Hill.
