And at this point, Grantham were like, nope, this case is too severe, transferred her to Nottingham Hospital, as always, for urgent care.
As soon as Katie arrived at this new hospital, they gave her a full examination.
And that was when doctors found out that five of her ribs were broken.
How?
They had no idea how this could have happened.
Her parents had no idea either because it's not like she'd like fallen or been dropped or anything like that.
They couldn't imagine how five of her ribs could have just broken.
But the doctors at Nottingham Hospital attributed her lungs collapsing to these broken ribs.
It seemed to make these respiratory attacks make sense.
This is actually the only case in a while where the respiratory attacks kind of made sense.
So once again, no further investigations were done.
No one is realising a pattern or a correlation because they seem to be just blaming these cardiac arrests on something, anything, everything.
Everything other than bad care at Grantham Hospital.
Katie recovered and survived her ordeal, although she was left with long lasting issues.
Due to the oxygen deprivation to her brain, she was actually left with cerebral palsy and that is a lifelong disability.
I think a couple of the children in this case were left with cerebral palsy.
That is something that will affect them for the rest of their lives.
But she was alive and that's all that matters.
Her parents were just over the moon that she could be saved and they were so grateful for all of the hospital staff's help.
especially nurse Beverly Allitt that had cared for both of their babies now.
