People have taken to the streets in Kyiv to protest against President Volodymyr Zelensky's decision to replace Defence Minister Mikhailo Fedorov.

They say his departure will hit Ukraine's war effort, just as it was hurting Russia's oil industry and slowing Moscow's advance on the front lines.

Zelensky says he wants Naftogaz CEO Sergei Koretsky as his next prime minister after a government reshuffle this week, saying preparing the energy system for winter is the top priority.

And France is a step closer to legalising assisted dying.

The Lower House of Parliament passed a bill capping years of intense ethical and political debate.

The law applies to adults, French citizens or legal residents living with serious incurable conditions.

Terminally ill patients will be able to request a lethal substance to end their lives, although the Catholic Church and some medical groups fought hard against it.

The bill now heads to France's Constitutional Council for review before it can be signed into law.
