Yeah.

It dates back to Borders days because when you went on your break, you would ceremonially pull off your lanyard because I had a little snap thing at the back.

You'd pull it off and go outside and have a cigarette because you weren't allowed to smoke wearing your lanyard.

um so why did you have to wear a lanyard to beat yourself into no so people knew you worked there but was there not uniform no oh right okay no so you'd have your little lanyard that says hi i'm john i'm here to help despite what my face is currently saying you should say my name is john and i've had a terrible day yeah um did you ever get told to cheer up by your boss or something

Because I did.

I did once at Virgin.

I used to get told to cheer up.

Once when I was working at Virgin, I was chatting to my friend who worked on the tills and I served a customer whilst chatting to him.

And you know, you can do everything automatically.

Like after about a month in any job, the till that baffled you is now you can do it with your eyes closed.

So I'm just typing everything, scanning, putting it back.

I don't think I even acknowledged the customer was there.

And a guy, our supervisor came over and he said, John, that is the worst piece of customer service I have ever seen.

And he sent me off to do the ordering on the back catalogue CDs, which actually I enjoyed.

Yeah.
