Um, you know, one thing that I often think about in terms of suicidality and hopelessness is

most people don't die with suicidal idea.
Most people don't want to die, right?
Um most people who have serious illness do not commit suicide and most people who commit suicide do not have serious illness.
So this idea that like
that it's expected to have these kinds of clusters of symptoms as we age and as we get closer to death is something that we really need to challenge and also to better understand.
Um and part of our goal with this paper is to better understand what is the normal experience um as people get closer to death.
And
You know, two thirds is a lot, but I think that there's a lot to learn from those numbers too.
It's not everyone, right?
So I think we still need to understand what's happening that's causing so many people to have these symptoms.
And in the paper we did differentiate between the physical symptoms and the emotional symptoms to make sure that it wasn't these declining health states that were driving the SESD's elevated scores.
Not necessarily.
You know, I I I think screening is so important, but I think it's also important to make sure that you have the resources to do something if someone screens positive, 'cause I think a lot of healthcare systems do all these great screens and then people just sort of fall away because there isn't necessarily a follow up care plan.
Um there are built-in measures, so it depends on what the style of the clinician is.
There are questions you can ask.
You can do a clinical interview surrounding the major symptoms of depression.
So you can look at the PhQ nine for those major uh symptoms of depression.
