That babysitter, who was white by the way, the rock star babysitter was white.
The babysitter's landlord found out she was babysitting black kids after school every day.
And told her if you continue babysitting these kids, you will be a victim.
I was seven.
When that happened, and that was day I realised.
Oh, the color of my skin impacts my experience in this world.
Don, that happens to people like you and I at a much earlier age than it does our white counterparts.
So we are far more able.
to be comfortable in these conversations because we've been doing it longer.
So when when when when these kids who are, you know, nineteen, twenty, whatever age, when we confront them with their own internal un like biases, in fact, racism.
They haven't been doing it as long as we have.
Like I could point out, Don and I experience black privilege, which is why we can have these conversations far more comfortably than others.
But if if Don were white and I said, hey, John, that was your white privilege, he'd get super defensive because he that's not something he has decades of experience talking about.
But I have decades of experience talking about it, because as we famously say, I've been black my whole life.
And I was seven when I realized my blackness impacted my lived experience.
I guarantee you.
Those three young men, they weren't seven when they realized their whiteness impacted their experience.
What they thought was oh, everybody's life is this way.
Like everybody's life is no like Nolan lives in our area, his life is this way.
And they say these things like like we wouldn't picked up Nolan every day.
