I just won a game.
Why is no one cheering?
My favorite thing in the Britt Garoli article is her talking about it being a middle management job.
And it wasn't always a middle management job.
No, what they said went.
And now we know executives hire their guy to enforce what they would like to happen in between the lines, which kind of puts the manager in a position where he can't do what maybe he feels like he should do from an instinctual standpoint, also just from an authoritative standpoint.
My thing with Francona specifically is because of his resume, he gets to choose his shot, pick his job at a way most of these first-time managers specifically do not get to do.
And so for him to go to a small market team on the rise, that makes perfect sense.
You're going to have more...
Power, say, influence with not only the executives who are technically above you, but let's face it, ownership.
And that's the game you got to win is to have the owner's favor.
And then he just slid right up in there.
It does, but it doesn't.
Because maybe he started talking to the manager candidates and was like, I'm better than any of these guys.
And then they have a heart to heart.
And he's like, I trust you more than I trust these guys.
And that's already your guy.
It's like the consultant who becomes your boss.
