Yes.

Uh so s the Sudoku universe is a way of thinking about uh

time and laws uh in the context of mod modern physics.

So there's this perhaps quite traditional way of thinking about physics where we uh imagine it as something like like like a computer, as Ken Wharton puts it.

So we think of an initial state being put in and then the universe just evolves the initial state, forwards in time, and produces the course of history.

And that's, I think, the the intuitively natural way to think about physics that many people still use.

Um, but there's I think really good evidence coming from lots of different parts of physics that we shouldn't be thinking about time in those terms.

We should instead be thinking about the laws of nature as applying all at once to the whole of history.

So in that sense they're they're like the rules of a game of Sudoku.

Um the rules of Sudoku don't tell you to start at the left and then move towards the right.

What they do is constrain the whole grid and tell you whether an entire solution is valid or invalid.

So the thought is that the laws of nature perhaps work like that and not like time evolution.

Uh so certainly consistency is one important kind of constraint.

You know, I I think probably we need more constraints than just consistency because

I don't know how to derive the actual laws that we observe from from purely consistency conditions.

Uh it would be neat if that could be done, uh, but it seems like there might be some constraints going going beyond just consistency conditions to sort of impose the specific types of laws that we actually see.

Yes.

Uh so I the dogma I was worrying about there was this idea that we should think about physics in terms of time evolution.
