Um you know, I'd I've I've always been very interested in physics and in in science, but my my questions have always been on more on the side of what what is considered to be uh

foundational th physics, um, or f or philosophy of physics.

Um, I think it was a toss-up for a long time whether I was going to, you know, be a physicist working on the foundations of physics or a philosopher.

Um, my PhD is actually in physics, not philosophy.

But, you know, in the end, I think perhaps the kind of work I want to do feels like it it lives more happily within philosophy.

So that's why I ended up here.

Yes.

So I mean generally that that means something to do with uh the interested in the sort of more basic conceptual questions, uh, in looking at the sort of underlying structures, in perhaps understanding why the theory is the way it is, or understanding sort of basic principles of the theory.

Uh sort of a contrast to, you know, more applied uh approaches.

So, you know, if you study the foundations of quantum mechanics, you're not

are going to be primarily working on how to build new quantum technologies.

You're going to be thinking about the structure of the theory and what it all means.

And perhaps those results will eventually go on to be useful in quantum technologies.

They they often do, but if you're working in foundations, that you that's not your sort of primary focus.

Yeah, this paper arose out of a conference on retrocausality and superdeterminism.

Uh retrocausality and superdeterminism are two approaches that people have often uh

tried to use in order to avoid the conclusion that quantum mechanics might be non-local.

So this conference was kind of discussing those possibilities and can you get rid of non-locality using one of these methods.

And I think what we discovered is that there were a variety of different ways in which people were using the words retrocausality and superdeterminism.

And there was a sort of a problem where people were talking past each other because they were just using these words in different ways.
