So ASML is a Dutch champion.
It plays a very outsized role because ASML is the sole supplier of advanced EUV equipment that plays a critical role in producing today's leading edge semiconductors, which are used in everything from consumer electronics to bespoke applications in the defense industrial base.
But Emily did give it a go.
The ASML optical system relies on Zeiss mirrors, which are polished to a smoothness of less than one atom's thickness.
So to put that into perspective, if mirrors were blown up to the size of something much larger, let's say Germany, the tallest imperfection would only be one millimeter high.

Just the laser itself has over 450,000 parts and components that go into creating the laser.
These are all extremely bespoke.
So you have to build an entire ecosystem just to supply a laser that can then supply an EUV machine.
Yeah, so if they cancel to China, the most immediate impact will be Chinese retaliation against our economies.
China has tremendous control over the raw material or finished product inputs that go into our economies.
This could cause something that looks and feels like the COVID-19 supply chain crunches.
And so the weaponization of a very advanced technology would cause a cascade of supply chain issues that we would all feel at the cash register, the grocery store, and beyond.
