I went to Wake Forest, then UVA for law school.
And I think that people go to law school.
You never meet doctors who are like, oh, I used to be a doctor, but now I'm writing a book.
I mean, sometimes you do.
But you go to medical school, you know what you want to do.
You go to law school, it's because you excel in a non-STEM area and you don't know what you want to do.
So that's kind of why a lot of lawyers turn into authors and novelists and
enter a creative field.
But I actually knew from a very young age that that's what I wanted to do.
But I was more interested.
I thought about sports journalism, but I was more interested in the creative side.
And you can't really graduate from college and just go and say, mom and dad, I'm going to go sit down and erase that and start writing a book.
So, yeah, I went to law school and then I graduated and went to a big firm in Manhattan and
And while I practiced for five years and was supposed to be billing GE, or maybe I was billing GE occasionally, I would write a novel, work on my novel.
And that one ultimately was rejected across the board, which I'm so grateful for now because y'all have kids.
I have three kids.
two just graduated from college and one's headed to Wake in the fall.
But you have that built-in story of like, you don't quit.
Like if I had given up after my first novel and all that rejection, then I would, you know, I would still be practicing law and, you know, not doing what I really love and what I feel like I'm meant to be doing.
So that's how I ended up that my first novel that was published was Something Borrowed.
