Now X has short form video scrolling, YouTube has shorts.
So I think TikTok, if you grew up in a generation where TikTok was predominant, it's very different than like my generation where we didn't even have, this sounds so quaint to you, Mark, but we didn't even have algorithmically curated news feeds.
It was a literal timestamp feed.
You could get to the bottom of it.
Well, he's lucky he's not on social media at all, but...
I work with a lot of students, so I've seen what they do.
And it is like a democratized and for better or worse, democratized some of these conversations, for example, about Israel, about the political establishment, about our institutions in ways that like these questions are all percolating in your head, even if you don't believe
the crazy thing that the person on TikTok said, it gets into your head.
And I think it plants a lot of seeds of distrust and doubt.
I think it has polarized people really intensely.
And I think it has all of these, it's created all these micro celebrities and products and those sorts of things that you or I even don't have any idea what it is.
They're extremely popular, a major celebrity with Gen Alpha, and I would have zero idea who the person is.
It's little ways, but I think they add up to kind of a big picture that's very different.
Well, and we've also seen screen time go dramatically up and time spent with friends go dramatically down.
And that has happened more precipitously with every passing five years.
And so I do think that's a huge physical change.
It's a huge social, psychological change.
And it's happening in these chunks, again, that I think it's why people are more identifying with their generation because it's an experience that's different.
