And that is so the opposite of what California used to symbolize in the United States.

What it meant culturally to us, how it was politically, it is the exact opposite.

But I think that's probably why, to some extent, this is working.

Because, Megan, I don't know about you, I think Tom Starr is one of the few Americans who believes what he's saying.

Like, I think he genuinely believes that these athletes should be able to compete

with girls.

And I think he is of the minority.

He's so far left and progressive on this question.

He genuinely believes what he's saying.

And there's something when you're in a tight race that's being pulled in multiple different directions with failed politicians like Javier Becerra, who lost so many migrant children under the Biden administration, under his purview when he was serving in the Biden administration.

People look at the failed politicians in the race and they say, well, this Tom Steyer guy, he shares my cultural beliefs.

He's going to protect us, protect California from the mean Republicans who want to do us harm.

And I want somebody to come in and make me feel

safer in all of these different ways as governor that aren't typically seen as like government duty, right?

Like physically safer in certain cases.

Like the baseline in California, you should be physically safe walking down the streets of Los Angeles, right?

Like you should be safe from like some of these fundamental duties of the government, which is to keep mentally ill people

off the streets, help them get treatment, help them get treatment.

This is what Steve Hilton and Spencer Pratt talk about, protect them, protect them from themselves, protect other people from where that is going to go.
