He's going to resign on Monday and this is now over.
And I think that is the point, right, that it wasn't that he was lying.
It wasn't that he suddenly lost the stomach for it.
It wasn't that he said one thing publicly and did another thing privately.
He just didn't find a way to do the thing that he wanted to do, which was stay in.
I think it depends what you mean by politics, because, you know, weirdly, he was savvy enough to see that if he let Andy Burnham stand in Gordon and Denton, I mean, remember Gordon and Denton four months ago, then this whole story could have been written much earlier.

There is something quite sort of Shakespearean about this, isn't there, that we have known since at least last September, since at least the last Labour Party conference that
that Andy Burnham was coming for him.
And what we've essentially seen is sort of Starmer doing the blocks, you know, blocks at conference here, blocks at Gordon and Denton there, and this was the final one that didn't.
I'm sorry to go off on one, but it reminded me of this.

And the exiled Bolingbroke, Henry Bolingbroke, is marching from exile towards the throne.
And he basically sort of confronts him.
And that's the end of Richard.
You know, Richard basically sits in prison saying, I have wasted time or has time wasted me?
And I guess that is where we are, like all the things that Starmer is thinking about.
