Thank you so much for having me on.
When she gave it to me when I was in high school, I mainly used it for Ubers if I had to, anything that was medical that I needed, or if I was in any type of dire situation, it was really meant for emergencies, just because I've always had a job since the age that I could, so I've always had my own money to spend on anything recreational or food or fun or anything like that.
Having my name authorized on her card allowed me to start building my credit score like immediately.
And so I had sort of a foundation by the time I was 18 and was able to get my own credit card.
Recently, it's been everything because at first when I got it, I had also a debit card that I would use for the majority of my payments and then the credit card just to build the credit score.
But I found that I like the credit card much more.
I've been pretty successful paying my payments.
Pretty successful?
Pretty successful.
I have on automatic payments and it's generally worked for me.
I've had two slip ups in the past just because I keep most of my money in a high yield savings account and then the Discover card comes out of my checking account.
So I have to be mindful of when it's being paid and transferring it into my checking account so that obviously there is money to be taken out there.
But just because
Discover will just do it automatically if you don't do it first.
So there has been times where I've forgotten to transfer the money twice, and I have to pay a $25 fee for Discover, and then I have to repay my statement.
to make sure that if I ever need to take out a loan in the future to buy a car, to buy a house, that I have a strong foundation credit score already and that I don't have to start planning to build my credit when I've decided that I want to take out a loan.
And that's also why it was in college where I missed the two payments because there is so much going on in my college life versus what it was in my high school life that those things just slipped my mind because I'm focusing on so many other things like school and work.
Thank you so much for having me.
