I'd love to hear you read the beginning section where Florence March arrives in France and it's 1922, isn't it?

It's lovely to hear you read the book that I've myself have been so absorbed in for the last week.

Thoroughly enjoyed it.

But I love Florence Mart.

She's such a fascinating character.

She's a writer just like you.

She's a woman with a very distinctive voice and inner life.

We could hear it there in the piece that you read.

And you mentioned Monsieur Hutong, but before we get to the clinic and different things, could you tell us a little bit about

about Florence.

Um later on she meets of course Doctor Cresson in the south of France.

But just tell us a little bit about Fl Florence, maybe give a sense to the listeners uh about her life.

Yeah, she is.

She is vulnerable but very courageous, I think.

And of course, running alongside Florence's story is that of Clementine Dove.

She's a young woman living a good few decades later in the nineteen eighties.

And I loved the way you moved between these two worlds.

The novel seems to shift so naturally from one woman to another.

They're both in a way searching for independence, they're trying to understand their s their themselves.

As a novelist, did you enjoy that that kind of structure of moving from one world to another?
