But it's that lump in your throat you feel when you're saying goodbye.
And I think that's why immediately when I was thinking of Autumn, I thought of this beautiful poem, Walking Away.

He was the Poet Laureate of England.
And actually, he's the father of Daniel Day-Lewis, the actor as well.
But he's thinking back to a time 18 years ago when he saw his son, Sean, go out onto the football pitch.
And suddenly he just felt this terrible, you know, sadness, like his heart was nearly breaking watching him.
Yeah.
So it's a really heartfelt poem, Walking Away by Cecil Day-Lewis.
It is 18 years ago, almost to the day.
A sunny day with the leaves just turning.
The touchlines new ruled since I watched you play your first game of football.
Then like a satellite wrenched from its orbit, go drifting away behind a scatter of boys.
I can see you walking away from me towards the school with the pathos of a half-fletched thing set free into a wilderness, the gate of one who finds no paths where the paths should be.
That hesitant figure eddying away like a winged seed loosened from its parent stem has something I never quite grasped to convey about nature's give and take.
the small, the scorching ordeals which fire one's irresolute clay.
I had worse partings, but none that so gnaws at my mind still.
Perhaps it is roughly saying what God alone could perfectly show, how selfhood begins with a walking away and love proved in the letting go.
