Well, there's the there's a piece of research on starting pitcher third time through the order, which said that every pitch you throw um softens your third time through the order penalty.
So every pitch type, every more pitch type you throw, the the lesser it is, you the more you can and it's obvious you're you've got more shapes.
And so the pitcher, the hitter is like, oh crap, he has
Bassett, ten.
Yeah, because they're like, Wow, the he has this whole other arsenal he hasn't shown me yet.
So he's like a whole nother pitcher out there.
Um and so, you know, the the trend in baseball has been to add pitches.
For for starters, it's been amazing.
It's been mostly fastball.
So now everyone has three fastballs.
And in the last three, four years, we've gone from starting pitchers averaging four pitch types to them averaging five.
So they added a on average.
Original whole pitch type in the last four years.
And the effect is there for relievers, but not as hard.
You've gone from 2.4 to 2.8 over the same timeframe.
But if you round, you're talking about oh, relievers used to be two-pitch guys, and now they're a little bit closer to three-pitch guys.
And Louis Varland is kind of close to a five-pitch guy because he still kind of has one foot in starting.
He just recently started relieving.
Leaving.
Also, the Jays improved his changeup and a slider, I think, to to kind of meet his other pitches.
