They're going to be like, I just fucking wasted two weeks.
Like what was the point?
And they're going to be frustrated simultaneously.
If all they want out of the fucking class is to handcuff some dovetails, then why am I telling them to, to like, you know, do anything?
Why am I telling them to pin the rabbits?
Like who gives a shit?
Let them cut dovetails.
They're not going to get it done.
It's fine.
But the danger of it is like, I'm 100% with you, but they could get to the point of frustration of like, this person is not letting me, like they're holding me back.
They're not letting me do the thing, you know?
And then they're like, well, fuck you.
I'm going to strike out and do it on my own.
And then they invariably fail, right?
I was just talking with a friend, I'm gonna try to do this without using names of people or institutions, but I was just talking with a friend who is a full-time woodworking educator and rewriting a program to set students up for success more.
Now, the thing about this particular program is the second project of the program that the students design requires a door and a drawer.
And every single time, without failure, students want to do two drawers, three drawers, four drawers in this particular project.
And the previous project didn't teach them how to make drawers, so they didn't know how much effort goes into making and fitting a proper drawer.
So he just redesigned the beginning of the program
