I guess the other thing I'm a little bit confused about is how to square some of this energy around the idea of corruption with just this broader cynicism about the political system and the sort of resignation we also hear from voters that everyone's corrupt or also this idea that kind of scandals don't seem to matter in the same way right now as maybe they did a few years ago.

How do you guys square those two things?

Yeah, that's one of the things that Cognetti, the Pennsylvania candidate I was talking about earlier, brought up with me when we spoke on the phone.

She was essentially like, if we can't address corruption, voters don't think we'll be able to address anything else.

Right.

If we don't focus on the influence of lobbyists or how campaign spending happens or.

You know, congressional stock trading as lawmakers, then how are we going to bridge the gap to address the things that voters actually need us to address?

Right.

We have to address these systemic problems before we can address the kitchen table stuff or at least try and walk and chew gum at the same time.

And I should say, you know, the Republican campaign operatives I talked to

Say voters shouldn't trust Democrats as messengers on this.

They point to things like multiple congressional Democrats facing federal fraud charges in the last few years.

That started with Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey, who is currently serving federal prison time.

Henry Cuellar, a sitting representative for Democrats from South Texas who Trump pardoned on federal corruption charges.

Cuellar denies wrongdoing.

And then a Florida congresswoman, Sheila Shafilius McCormick, who is facing federal charges right now and resigned earlier this term over allegedly.

embezzling COVID funds or misappropriating COVID funds and spending it on her campaign.

She also denies wrongdoing.

All right.

Well, that seems like a good place to leave it.
