Emergency services personnel arrived at Graham's home in the evening Saturday.
Dispatch audio reviewed by NPR indicated they found someone in cardiac arrest at Graham's home.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, Senator Graham's office released a statement saying that the senator had died of a brief and sudden illness.
The medical examiner's statement shared by the office indicates that the cause of death will not be finalized until additional standard testing, including toxicology, is completed.

He remembered the South Carolinian as a loyal ally who fiercely advocated for the president's agenda, despite an acrimonious 2016 Republican primary fight.
