What do you think and what do you expect of Congress to make sure this never happens again?
What does Congress do to protect journalists so you're the last guy, not just the first one that this happens?
Go ahead.
What would you say about governors now?
We've seen Governor Newsom, Governor Pritzker.
There have been some rock-solid governors who have stood up and filled the role where you're not seeing Republicans check
you know, the president in Washington.
What can governors do right now?
And what can state attorneys general do right now to protect the freedom of the press?
And I wrote legislation with Dan Goldman a couple of weeks ago that gets rid of that qualified immunity because these guys think they're invincible.
And I've put that in kind of my list of reforms from taking off the masks, putting identification out, no more roving patrols, going to a judge for warrants as a requirement for them to get funding.
But my point about governors, and you're absolutely right, is you have to make these guys react.
And
if they're not on their heels then the most vulnerable are on ours and some people will say to me well if you do this and this it will go to federal court and you risk losing and i say
do it like yeah or like what you're doing now is not helping like at least make moves and make them react and if you have legal standing go on offense but if you're just standing there admiring the problem while people are getting dragged by their hair and thrown into unmarked cars you're not really helping and so i i don't think we can do enough to go on offense against these guys
So you're talking to a lot of folks who are going to the Democratic Convention this weekend.
What would you tell them about what you saw in Minnesota?
And I want to kind of fold into this, you know, the loss yesterday of Reverend Jackson and, you know, the approach during the civil rights movement to bring the faith community into it.
And people have told me that they didn't expect to see
the inter-dominant, interfaith approach in Minnesota that they saw.
