Not only was I not having to fight using them, I wasn't even thinking about it. matched

So the problem just disappeared. matched

That's what abstinence gives you. matched

My experience is for people who have real problems, moderation often traps you in a place that's deeply uncomfortable because you're fighting it all the time. matched

That said, I don't have a horse in the abstinence or harm reduction race because everybody's different. matched

For some people, harm reduction, meaning they go from shooting heroin and stealing TVs every other night to drinking three nights a week, you would have to, by any reasonable measure, you'd have to go, well, that's an improvement. matched

So abstinence doesn't need to be the goal for everybody. matched

But for someone like me, it is the way of living with the most freedom. matched

I tried moderating. matched

God, I mean, every substance user has tried moderating. matched

countless times. matched

And before I got sober that second time, I went to a program called moderation management. matched

It was created by somebody who had been an addict who believed that they had figured out the key to how to moderate. matched

Now, I will also tell you that the founder of the program went on to kill someone in a drunk driving accident. matched

So that said, I went to moderation management and I threw myself into that program. matched

I mean, because I wanted it desperately. matched

Please don't make me go back to AA. matched

Please don't make me have to quit drinking entirely. matched
