Speaking to journalists, Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said the suspect, 21-year-old Abdul Balaut, was radicalised by and affiliated with the Islamist scene.
The suspect drove a white van into a crowd of people on the edges of Berlin's Pride Parade shortly up to 10pm last night.
Police cite witnesses who say they saw at least one man flee the vehicle.
Federal Interior Minister Dobrindt says the man was believed to have been carrying a machete and several of the injured have stab wounds.
