Brown sludge spatters in the truck's windshield, thick enough to block the dash cam.
Cody and Vicky both jumped in their cars.
They had friends and family working that day.
The two towers where Cody worked, the ones he had stared at as a kid and imagined as the towers of a city, were gone.

When I asked people in Jay how an explosion of that magnitude could claim no lives, mostly they said it was the grace of God.
From above, the land that holds the mill looks more than a little like a molar under x-ray.
A peninsula surrounded on three sides by a river.
Since the explosion, the site's been a sort of physical and economic cavity for Jay.
The town is putting its hopes on setting things right by placing a data center directly into that hole, replacing the symbol of the old economy with the new.

When I asked people in Jay why they supported this project, a lot of them said that the answers are all in this building.
Lucian Richard is the guy responsible for turning a paper mill into a place where a data center can go.
He also worked at the mill for decades.
Before the explosion, the mill ran 24-7.
From town, you could hear it, and sometimes Jay would reek of sulfur.
Inside the mill were dozens of workers, mechanics, electricians, maintenance workers, and operators.
Now it's deathly quiet.
