i mean even meta at this point it's hard to believe but it's 22 years old it's not a startup these are businesses and organizations that legitimately have world-class leading data and they see deployment data they see adoption curves and consumption patterns they see their enterprise pipeline they understand union economics on a lot of these things a lot better than the average bear does and they genuinely do have asymmetric information that's just not being published correct
I think that's an important note too.
And obviously there's puts and takes on this.
Open AI gets a lot of criticism and maybe rightfully so, because I mean, let's be honest, their journey from nonprofit for the greater good to for-profit to the Elon Musk, Sam Altman ongoing war is interesting, but Chet GPT is not to the AI economy.
It's obviously the bell cow, right?
It's obviously the founder in a lot of ways of it, but just like any other industry, the first person in is not necessarily the dominant force or the sustaining force.
And when you look at where a lot of this money is coming from first, it's an incredibly diverse source of cash.
Obviously, there's the businesses themselves, but there's also sovereign funds.
There's other mature companies like Apple, who chose not to build themselves, but are making tremendous investments in buying the services, defense contractors, pharma companies, top shelf enterprises, and people who are using their own operating cash to do a lot of this.
People pay so much attention to the debt funding.
But if Apple's choosing to make a $10 or $20 billion investment using cash, or they're sitting on a damn half trillion dollars in cash, it's odd in some ways to say that it's very risky for them to use 5% of one year's operating cash to buy into something and then turn around and say that that's nothing but a circular economy.
Absolutely.
I think Apple's really interesting.
They essentially ran the App Store play again.
They said, we're not going to be the primary developer of the services you use through your phone, but we are going to be the primary gateway.
And with them buying into Gemini to finally make Siri somewhat functional is exciting, but it's also an incredible demand signal.
It's a signal that one of the world's largest enterprises is willing to spend lots and lots of money to offtake someone else's AI capacity.
Correct.
Which I think is really exciting and really unique in a lot of ways.
