I'm very, very happy to be here.

It's wonderful that you're doing this podcast.

Well, in the nineteen fifties and sixties there was very little talk of the Holocaust.

You might recall that Schindler's list didn't come out even until the nineteen until nineteen ninety three.

And I lived in a rather insular world, first in Malma, Sweden, uh where I was born.

And then in New York City.

At least in Sweden I was a cute little

Girl after all the neighborhood children like to play with.

But when we moved to New York City, my world was surrounded by my uncles and my aunts.

And uh their friends.

And their friends' children.

And uh all were survivors.

And in our neighborhood, most of the white children I knew were also from families uh that had been Holocaust survivors.

But in schools and in the larger c uh culture there was scarcely any word of it.

So I'm smelling.

And I had a lot of time for contemplation.

And thought and I thought a lot.

I thought a lot about the evil in the world.
