Our conversation today is amongst others about the background on open source, but also on particularly the legal and ethics perspective, because you've been working in that field for many years and you also think a lot about how to trust technology.

And so I wanna start with you at the intersection of it.

And what's the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about tech and trust?

we now look into ways of how to achieve that, one of the perspectives that you bring to the conversation is also open source.

And particularly for AI, you focused on the topic for a long time and you also highlight how much of a critical issue it is to provide that, particularly from a European perspective.

Uh can you iterate a bit and tell us about the paper that you've been working on and the focus on your topic and how come that you think open source AI is connected to trustworthiness and trust overall?

You are so deep in the understanding of what routes like a model would go through, and you would also know the moments in time when trust would break.

But what I would be interested in is to understand if a company uses an open source model after it's been routed through.

What are the gates or what were your findings that you also identified it?
podcast-host
in your paper of where those moments are and how I as a user know about them or also, you know, counter them so I can inherently trust and benefit from the power such a model could have, but not uh yeah, but not, you know, being harmed by the usage in itself.

I guess based on that one could say that open source also enables a redistribution of power.

And we've also highlighted how some call it dependence, some call it, you know, demand of non-European models and a lot of large actors that are currently also crowding the market.
