Immunity is too strong, but willingness to absorb that unpopularity and that backlash, it has made me rethink how sensitive they are to it. The only thing I have actually seen stop them is the beginnings of unravelings in the treasury bond market. I don't think they want to cause a genuine financial crisis.

Mass protests, I actually find a quite unnerving prospect right now, because I think a lot about the moment in the first term when you had the George Floyd protests, where And Trump said that he wanted to see the National Guard or someone deployed to shoot the protesters, at least in the knees. And that order, if you want to call it an order, that suggestion was ignored.
