I didn't change my spending habits during the pandemic in terms of I still spend, I spent less, but whatever I spent was still spent through my credit cards.

Meaning those expenses that I could have, I was still trying to benefit from the cash back rewards or the traveler's points, etc.

So with the pandemic, I was eating more at home.

I was being more conservative.

I was the uncertainty made me be more careful.

But those expenses that I still had to do.

Well, gas was another expense that diminished significantly.

I haven't worked in my office since March of 2020.

So certainly that's another expense that decreased.

But when I do fill up my tank or when I go to the supermarket, I will still spend it on my credit cards because I can pay it at the end of the month.

I knew I had a big purchase coming up.

I was buying the engagement ring for my now fiance.

And I figured, if I know that I'm going to have that expense, what can I do to mitigate it?

And I knew I looked for the card with the best signup bonus and essentially knowing that I could pay that off and that I was not getting essentially a long-term loan with a really, really high interest.

I figured I could make benefit of that expense with, in this case, the large signup bonus.

To me and hopefully to everyone else, the pandemic was a reality check that the world is unpredictable and things can happen.

I mean, nobody...

in 2019 would have expected that 2020 would have been the way it was.

So it definitely teaches you to be more careful, to be more prepared for the unexpected.
