And then we'll just talk a little bit about how we know the information we know because that's going to be a crucial part of this story, the interpretation of evidence on the ground in this community.

But we might just start with a general outline of what the murders were.

And while this precise details about what happened in that house the previous night are a matter of dispute right up to the present day, maybe can we just elaborate a little bit on what we do know and maybe what does remain disputed in terms, I suppose, that there are very violent murders.

We we we know that from the evidence that was in the house at the time, but there is a lot about, you know, what exactly happened that remains uh questioned.

And across Ireland more broadly, it's fair to say this was quite an unusual attack.

You know, you could go back maybe earlier in the nineteenth century, I'm thinking of things like the murders of Light W Wild Goose Lodge, the murders of the Shea family in South Tipperary.

But by the later nineteenth century, this type of attack is very unusual, i insofar as if you've alluded to their

And I I suppose it is worth

putting it in the context of as you've alluded to there, the motives

are not still understood.

And that's complicated by the fact that it as a as a crime is very unusual at the time.

And as what we might call outsiders descend on the community, be they journalists and then over time policemen, authorities of various different kinds, we see this huge gap emerge in terms of their lack of understanding of what this community is.

And one thing that I think that is really striking, I think something that people today find very difficult to kind of understand, is that the people of the mab translated community, the neighbors of the Joyce family have been attacked, they don't offer

Aid initially to the victims.

And you know, you can see how some people were just shocked that this wouldn't happen.

You know, they'd live side by side for generations, and then this happens, and the community are seen to stand idly by.

It's probably worth putting some of that in context, though, as well, because I think as we explore this case, we do see like two very different worldviews, understandings of daily life, which don't that they don't particularly understand each other.
