You just shouldn't be doing that.
And right now, I agree with you.
I think that they are set up to get through this year where they don't have to worry about safety in this class.
However, like you said, if because of the draft order and because of other players that maybe are valued a little bit more because of positional value, the best player in this draft falls to you at five, then happily collect.
Because there is no long-term answer at safety right now.
Javon Holland, you know,
if he sticks around, is only really signed through this year and next year, I think.
Tyler Newben would only be this year, next year also, right, as a second-round pick.
It's a four-year deal.
Ardarius Washington and Jason Pinnock, I believe, are both one-year deals.
So we're talking about safety being locked up really early
for just 2026, they can get by.
For 2027, they would need depth anyway at a minimum.
And remember, Caleb Downs is somebody that can move around, which means that allows Tyler Newben to move around.
And like you said, where he's like a John Harbaugh kind of safety, I think he's a Denard Wilson kind of safety.
He's incredibly smart.
He understands the game of football.
He knows how to play all the positions and he communicates really well with his other teammates, which means that not only can you line them up in a bunch of different spots and move your safeties wherever you want.
It also allows you to rotate them post snap just the way you want to as Denard Wilson, just the way you want.
So adding Caleb Downs does help for 2026 and it helps for the long term, just as you said.
