I mean, you've done a thousand of these shows, Don.
And for me, it is about still comparing us as a industrialized nation and how we treat our people that are incarcerated.
One, that we lead the world in incarceration.
But what systems are we using in our treatment of those people that we house versus that of other industrialized countries that put people in houses where my husband sat in a...
a warehouse of 75 men, three rows high, sharing five urinals and four sinks and four showerheads.
And when you go to somewhere like Norway, each one of those individuals that's incarcerated, they have their own
housing unit.
They can cook their own food.
Their families can come and visit them.
So what is it in our system that makes it that we want to treat our citizens that have erred, which we know is human?
Why do we want to treat them as less than human when we have them in the custody of our state?
Whether I have broken the law or not, I'm still a human being.
And in all those things, we want to make sure that we're treating our citizens like it.
That's right.
That's a very, very intentional system, isn't it?
You know, people say, oh, the system has failed us.
No, this machine is working just intricately as it is supposed to.
And so that is why it is so important for us with this film.
It is not just a movie.
It is a movement, Don Lemon.
