Uh at least that's how I feel.
I mean, I trust in God's presence, but I I think that was a really great quote that he had, you know, Blessed are they who haven't felt anything and still believe, because I think in the spiritual life and even in spiritual direction circles, as you know.
We can privilege emotions over so many things, right?
And um if you pray for example and you don't get an emotion, you don't get joy or sorrow or whatever.
And you maybe have an insight, I talk about this in my book, Learning to Pray, that's fine, right?
So I think, you know, not to be too attached to that, to to be open to that, to be open to the way that God works through your emotions.
You know, like if you're uplifted during a sacrament or during a hymn, a Matt Marr hymn, you know, you're moved to tears, that's great.
But if you're not, it doesn't mean that God is not present to you.
Right.
So a lot of it really is about showing up.
I really like that quote and I'm glad that I'm really glad that he brought that up too.
Definitely.
Um, I think uh if you sort of predispose yourself to being open in prayer to be what Saint Ignatius calls generous in prayer, like really opening yourself up and you know, just putting your butt on the seat, I sit when I pray, or kneeling or lying down or walking.
Then
you know, it creates the space.
It's it's like a relationship.
Father Bill Barry used to talk about this.
So
You know, Maggie, you and I are friends, but if we never spent any time together.
Right, you would say, Well, how can that friendship deepen?
